Like the author, I have spent much of my life loving people who at the very least have Jekyll and Hyde personality changes when under the influence. The only child of a drug-addicted surgeon and an alcoholic actor/singer, I developed avoidant and ambivalent attachment patterns that have compromised my life. If only society provided the support the author calls for. Looking forward to reading Hari’s book, Chasing the Scream. And where does Big Pharma fit in to this picture? Recently the owners of Purdue Pharma, makers of the blockbuster opioid OxyContin, booted stalwarts such as the Mellons and Rockefellers from the list of the richest American families. How much personal tragedy did these pill pushers inflict on others in order to build their fortune?
